When someone with Excel 2016 opens one and then tries to save changes, they’re often- but not always- warned about formatting changes when saving the file in the older format, which is the default since Excel 2016 evidently opens them in something called “compatibility mode”. I’ve got a server filled with a bajillion spreadsheets in old-timey Excel 97-2003 XLS format. My trial run with a handful of users has been mostly smooth, but I’ve identified a potential issue that I’d like to get some advice on, and it concerns Excel. After (too) many years languishing with Office 2003, I have finally begun the process of upgrading several dozen users to Office 2016 (via Office 365).
